Pickup: Pick-up at Rica Ishavshotel, Tromsø at 16.45 daily. Please be there 10 min. before pick-up. Drop-off at the same place the following afternoon

Experience the real Arctic wilderness from a dogsled with great chances of spotting the Northern Lights. Stay overnight in a Lavvu a cabin and enjoy a reindeer safari. All at Camp Tamok!

Camp Tamok is situasted in The Tamok Vally 75 min. drive from Tromsø. On the first evening, you will experience the beauty of the Tamok Valley, with high chances of seeing the Northern Lights in this uninhabited area with no artificial light as your dog team pulls you through the wilderness. Hopefully you will experience the magical Aurora Borealis dancing in the sky. After a delicious dinner and an overnight stay in a lavvu (Sami herdsmen’s tent) or a cabin at Camp Tamok, you will go on a reindeer safari before returning to Tromsø in the late afternoon.

Essential information

Vegetarian food available if ordered in advance.
Warm woollen underwear and socks are recommended for this excursion.
Fleece is useful as a second layer. Warm outer clothes and boots will be provided.
Bring sunglasses and sunscreen (from February to April).
Camp Tamok is a wilderness camp and there is no running water (hot or cold) or flushing toilets.
For your safety excursions might be shorter than described in situations of very low temperatures or bad weather.

Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up in Tromsø and transport to the Tamok Valley where a team of dogs is ready to take you out on a dog sledding adventure (2-3 hours). You will ride the sled in teams of two persons and your guide will provide detailed instructions about how to be a musher and lead a team of dog. Dinner and accomodation in a lavvu or in the cabin at Camp Tamok
Day 2: Breakfast and reindeer safari at Camp Tamok (2,5 km trail). Retun back to Tromsø in the late afternoon.

Restrictions

Lower age limit for leading your own team of dogs is 16.
